Book/Dogs On Thursday

"Who is your favorite female lead character? And why? (And yes, of course, you can name more than one . . . I always have trouble narrowing down these things to one name, why should I force you to?)"

A Year By The Sea: Thoughts of an Unfinished Woman by Joan Anderson
Joan is the lead character in this memoir which drew me into the story that I never wanted to end. Her year of learning about herself at a pivotal point in her life spoke to me so vividly that I wanted to know her, become friends with her, have weekly lunches, and share the marvels that she expresses so well in her book.
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
Rosaleen and "the Calendar Sisters" for their spiritual strength and powerful connection with Nature. The author describes Mother Nature as looking like Eleanor Roosevelt. Love that image of strength and compassion!
Chocolat by Joanne Harris
Armande is an 80-year-old woman who remains artful, clever, and playful with a strong will and great determination about absorbing pleasure in life. Fantastic character!

Lailah: Have you ever discovered the exactly perfect, unexpected spot for an afternoon nap?
I have.

kkkkkkkk

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.2 Corinthians 4:7

I've not read any of these, though I have heard of the first two. The first and last ones sound really interesting!

That should be, I have heard of the middle two.

I loved A Year by the Sea, too - kept imagining how wonderful it would be to have a place to think...

Oh, I loved The Secret Life of Bees too. It was sad and amazing at the same time.

I want to crawl under a chair and nap too!!! Lailah, save me a spot!

The photo made me laugh. Our chairs and sofas are low to the ground and I was always used to our dogs outgrowing the ability to crawl under things. But, Mosby is so small that he's constantly under something. It's cute to see a big dog doing the same thing.

Your wolf has found its den! Probably exhausted from roaming the hills & hollars hunting prey.

Lailah knows all the best places to nap!

Oh I am choosing Armande from Chocolat too! She is such a sassy and clever one!
I just love Joanne Harris's books!

Interesting picks. I've only read Secret Life, so the other two sound intriguing.
