Chèche à la sauce Shawl

 It looks like a sweet little frilly shawl for someone in a nursing home, so I added ties to help keep the shawl in the right position. It's rather frilly and fussy, but I know someone will be blessed by it.  I made it for the Prayer Shawl Ministry at our church using the "Chèche à la sauce" pattern available here.

 The shawl is crocheted using Aran yarn and a size H crochet hook. While I'm not crazy about this yarn for this project and think the pattern would be prettier in a different yarn, I had to use acrylic for this ministry project. I changed the border, added picot edging, and made the shawl longer than the pattern directions. It is a quickie project that I completed in less than a week.

Lydia Prayer Shawl



 My sister, who lives way across the country to the southeast of me, requested a prayer shawl for a lady who is receiving chemo for lung cancer. I feel so honored to be asked to make a shawl to bless and comfort her. The pattern is the "Lydia Shawl", simple and fast yet very pretty.

 To the stash! This is S. Charles Collezione Mosaic in red tweed, a discontinued yarn. It is 83% wool with polymide and acrylic. Note the very thin black threads running through the red. That thread has the colorful bits that make the tweedy part of this yarn which waited in stash since 2002 for just this project of blessing.

 I am using a size H hook to make it open with a gentle drape. It gets very hot and humid where she lives, so nix to anything too bulky.

The teardrop shape of the center open work line is very eye-appealing made a with sc and dc pattern. It looks large in the picture, but I have quite a bit more to crochet. It's repetitive and moves along fairly quickly.

Finished Shawl and a Book

 This is the Casa Blanca Bonita Openwork Shawl crocheted with Tahki Yarns "Jackson" and a size L hook. The bulky yarn changes the look somewhat as does the single color. I would like to make another in self-striping yarn as shown on the pattern.

 Oh! I just noticed my shoe under the chair! I'm not very good about wearing shoes in the house! I'm always kicking them off! Do you do that too?



I added a scalloped border in dark blue on three sides and a single crochet finish across the neck edge. I've already taken this shawl to church for our Prayer Shawl ministry.

 

My Friday, page 56 is from Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker by Jennifer Chiaverini: 

"Suddenly she was seized by the cold realization that she would likely be asked to sew many black dresses in the months ahead as her patrons lost husbands, sons, and brothers, and donned the somber colors of mourning as custom demanded. Shaking off the thought, she spied a black silk dress that Mrs. Lincoln must have brought with her from Illinois and held it up."                                                                                     

Another Prayer Shawl

I finished another prayer shawl for our church ministry through the Care Committee. This is a simple pattern called "Anna's Shawl". I did change the stitch work a bit to speed the process. The pattern is written in single crochet for the main part. I went from single to half double to double for the black part. I used Bucilla Melody, an old yarn, which is a mohair blend.  It is one of my least favorite shawls, I think because of the yarn and the colors. A neighbor gave me this yarn a couple of years ago. Someone had given it to her sister long ago. Sounds like it was passed from person to person over the years, so I decided it most certainly needed some hooky love. I hope it will bless someone in need of prayers and comfort.

Mesh Triangle Shawl

This prayer shawl is made with stash yarn: Bucilla Melody from my neighbor who received it from her sister who received it from someone in Illinois who got it at a yard sale who.... You get the idea. It has been around for a long, long time. I paired it with Louise Harding Jasmine from my stash to crochet the triangle shawl. The brown is pretty drab, so I dug a little deeper to find the Filati FF Darling in green, tan, and gold to use for the border. Not my favorite yarns, but I did find a way to use them to bless someone in need of prayer.

South Bay Shawlette

I just returned from taking this South Bay Shawlette to church for our Prayer Shawl Ministry. I made a shawl rather than shawlette. :)

This cotton/linen blend from Interlacements Yarn has been knitted and ripped a couple of times. It has lived in our house for a few years just waiting for the right pattern.

And this is it, not knit but crochet! The lovely South Bay Shawlette beautifully fits these colors and weight. My prayers go with it to comfort its wearer.

FO is spotted!

I can hardly believe it! I have, right here, an official FO!! I wanted to make a wrap suitable for a man for our church's prayer shawl ministry. It’s a boring pattern, but I decided to press on and complete it! It took me quite a long time because I was more inclined to work on other WIPs. It's made with two skeins of James C. Brett Marble Chunky yarn and size 10 needles.
