The thing about being a self-taught knitter, no matter how long I've been knitting is that old news is new news to me! This summer, I took my first knitting class ever! Although the class was entrelac, I learned a little trick from another lady in the class. Spit-splicing! Who knew? I mean, I don't splice at all...even. Yesterday whilst knitting my Bistro shirt, I came to a point where I could apply my new skill.
It was my first attempt since the lady who demonstrated spit-splicing actually did splice the yarn as part of my mini-lesson. I must 'fess up, however. Being the girly-girl that I am, I was completely grossed out when she noisily spit on each of her hands, then placed MY yarn in it!! Yuck!!

She rubbed her hands together, back and forth and not too gently, while I was thinking "I'm not touching that yarn!" She opened her hand to show a continuous thread of yarn. Being polite and thankful and not wanting to disappoint her and her self-satisfied smile, I knit.

LOL i guess licking is more lady like. it's deff better than sucking on your yarn!
I put my yarn in my mouth to get it wet. That can get a bit fuzzy at times. :) Supposedly spit is also supposed to remove one's own blood from a quilting project.
I usually walk over to the sink and run water over the ends. ;)
Please tell me they taught you to knit backwards in that class. This is a must for entrelac, especially when you WIP is large enough that flipping it over every few stitches is a pain.
Yeah I've had someone try to do that to my yarn. I'm a bit of a germ hater so it freaked me out and I grabbed it back before she could go on. *L*
Looks like you did a good job of it though. :D

Oh Pooch that is hilarious! Hey, at least she didn't spit in YOUR hands. That is just crazy, but really a great idea.
Yep, pretty yucky. I came up with my own splicing. I actually unspin, respin the plies and then respin the plies together all in about 6 inches of either end, I have come to do this pretty fast and efficient with no spit! I find it very clever and the knitting in is foolproof! But I am like you too, always learning something new!
Oh No....I cannot believe that it actually splices it permanetly together..But what a learning experience. Now licking each hand makes a more ladylike stand to me, using the sink sounds even better.
LOL! That is so funny that you licked the splice instead of spitting!
It is more lady like! I will have to try that. :)
I am glad Knitting camp was so much fun.
I will make it to the one near me oneday!
P.S...
LoL, Although after thinking about it.
I wonder if dog slobber splicing will work too!
