AbFab, Add a Bit More Yarn...and Stir...

Nothing like a package from http://www.yarnmarket.com/ to brighten my day! I originally ordered the yarn to use with the mohair in the AbFab throw, however the Tiny Tots colors won't work for that.

The Waikiki will beautifully add some heft to the mohair strands. This ghan has so much mohair---is absolutely gorgeous, however I find that I tire of the filmy yarn and want another fiber to carry with some of the mohair. Hence, I searched for other yarns to work with some of the mohair. This is the Colinette Absolutely Fabulous Afghan kit in Amethyst which I am making for our teen DGD. Sometimes these colors seem so sugary that my teeth hurt! She is all about purple!

I added some short circs to my collection---one can never have too much yarn or too many needles! I love working with bamboo needles!

Happy weekend knitting to all!

Hot Damn! Afghan

So, apparently in the '90's there was a beautiful throw priced at $250-$500 in stores. A clever knitter duplicated the pattern and said "Hot damn!" upon completion--- so excited was she at her cleverness in saving $$ and creating the beautiful throw. That's the story on the free pattern available at http://www.knitting-crochet.com/hotdamn.html

After finishing the AbFab throw http://yarnknitreadlit.blogspot.com/search?q=AbFab (Don't they all have clever names?) to give to teen DGD at Christmas, I started this for DH and I. Deciding to use stash yarn, I am now knitting with size 19 needles using Skacel "Poker", Trendsetter "Pinot", and Plymouth Encore Colorspun. No, they're not setting atop yarns gone wild! That's the piled-up version of the knitted throw!

I think of the colors as strawberries and French vanilla with a hint of chocolate which will carry through a variety of stash yarns for this throw. Its especially fun to use the Pinot and Poker, souvenir yarns from our travels in Nashville, TN, last summer after our Delta Queen cruise.

Ab-SO-lutely Fabulous

Cooler weather means its time to work on the AbFab throw, a Colinette kit, in the Amethyst colorway. Ya gotta like PURPLE for this! And, our older DGD surely does! If the stars align, she will receive this for Christmas to add to her all purple bedroom. Did I mention that she's 14?
Enjoy the look of these luscious Colinette yarns! AbGorgeous! And, the names!

Did I mention luscious? This pattern is "Scallops", an easy 56-row repeat on size 11 needles. OK! I have the urge to pick it up and knit!

Dogs Don't Get It!

I was just visiting Paula at http://bassetknitter.blogspot.com/, laughing at the poem she posted, smiling at the cunning pix of her precious, little kitty. And...I thought....cat's completely get it! They understand yarn...maybe even knitting. Cats know. Consider the many blogs with frolicking kitties and catties as they play with yarn, WIPs, and FOs. Tangles of yarn are left in their cat happy wake. Yep. No doubt. Cats can be crazed yarnies.

Let's take a look at my magnificent Max. Notice the yarn basket? Notice Max sleeping? Complete indifference to basket of yarniness. There may be dogs who interact with yarn. Max is not one of them.
Due to his sterling character, Max will model for my photo shoots. It does not bring him joy.

Not even the luscious Collinette AbFab yarns tempt him. Nope. Max just doesn't get it. Poor dear. Good thing I love him so much!

Can you...or a cat....turn your back on this inviting fiber?

Welcome back-welcome back-welcome back...

This basket of goodness welcomed me home from North Carolina --- my yarn for the AbFab throw!! Isn't it luscious just setting there??! I ordered it at

Soooo nice to come home to...along with DH and Max, that is!! I am making it in the Scallops pattern in powerful, passionate purple for DGD. Actually, Collinette named it "Amethyst", which indeed it is! Amethyst also happens to be the birthstone that this DGD and I share since she was born on my birthday in February! Wonders abound! She has redecorated her bedroom in purple-everything so, of course, this kit called my name! I've been wanting to make it for about four years now, so the time has come. It's all about the yarn-the yarn-the yarn!!

Here are a few pics from the Biltmore Estate beginning at the entry gate. It is six miles from this point to the house.
We toured the farm village, winery, the deer park area for lunch and a carriage ride on the first day.

We spent the second afternoon touring the house, gardens, and court yard. Of course, the house and its furnishings are glorious. I enjoy looking back in time to see how people lived during the gilded age. I must say that I was even more keen on the beauty of this huge estate, the natural beauty in the trees and plants. The estate is so vast that I felt transported in this springtime landscape. A truly prayer-inspiring setting.

We also spent time at the Billy Graham Center in Asheville. This is the chapel spire towering over the trees. This too is situated on an enormous, natural acreage purchased by Reverend Graham during the '50s for retreats, seminars, and training. There are more pics at http://www.bgtc.info/
