Recent Fluff

What’s the lightest, most “fluff” kind of book you’ve read recently?

Murder at the Azalea Festival --- doesn't the title scream fluff?! Written by Ellen Elizabeth Hunter, the story is fun and relaxing. I read about this author somewhere online and decided to read this cozy mystery. The lead character is Ashley Wilkes, a historical preservationist, who stumbles into murderous situations of course. Ashley is female;her sister is Melanie. Their mother was enchanted by "Gone With the Wind". Ashley is quite certain that had there been a brother, his name would be RhettButler Wilkes.

A good read.

Days at the Lake

Loading our camper and pontoon, we departed for a nearby lake taking Lailah on her first camping trip. A marvelous Monday-Friday enjoying nature's beauty.

There were a couple of very windy days that had us scrambling to get the boat off the water,

And sunny days when we glided down the boat ramp and onto the glistening lake,

Passing the no wake buoys,



And watching the graceful sail boats.

DH enjoys fishing and hooked this wiper

And netted it with curious Lailah's help.

Day time, no one sleeping. Time for Lailah to enjoy the air mattress.

But, by night she slept on a mat on the camper floor. Make that, the dirty floor!

Bizarro Colors

I used stash yarn---hence the bizarro color combination--- to crochet a baby blanket for a local charity. I used an F hook with DK and WW yarn.

I love edgings so I added a row of sc all around, then a row of trc, and finished with picot stitch. My prayers go with this blanket to bless a baby with love.

The Beach House

The Beach House: A Novel by Jane Green

I got the book because of the 65 year old protagonist and am not disappointed in her character. Overall, the writing is formulaic--almost like reading a story board. The plus is that the descriptions of life in the natural beauty of Nantucket made the book worth while for this reader.

Book-book-booking

Today's Booking Through Thursday question asks:
"Do you keep all your unread books together, like books in a waiting room? Or are they scattered throughout your shelves, mingling like party-goers waiting for the host to come along?"

Its a "waiting room" on my book shelves. Unread books are shelved together, though I often refer to my TBR list on http://www.goodreads.com/ . Sometimes its easier for me to scan the list of my TBRs online than to read the sideways book titles on my shelves.

Happy Times

Finished a throw for the master bedroom using a modified version of the "Happy Times" pattern by Dot Drake. This is a great mindless crochet pattern that I varied with sc, hdc, and trc.

This one was done with a size H hook and Plymouth Encore in pale pink, light green, and white. I added a scalloped edging to finish it and tossed it on the bed.

Fleurs

This is the first spring since DH built my potting bench on our deck. I'm having a grand ol' time filling pots and planters for our deck. This spring I'm planting flowers like those in my Nonna's huge flower beds when I was a child. I think of it as an old-fashioned garden.

These yellow lion pansies are tucked in planters here and there on the deck. This one is in a pot on the shelf outside of the kitchen window.

Lots of pink snaps adorn the three planter boxes on the deck. So cheerful!

These are called white blotch. Could it be a purple blotch??

These pinwheel petunias were the favorites of one of my sons when he was a boy. Still a favorite of mine!

Lantana is new to me this spring. I haven't used them until now and just love the tiny delicate blossoms!

Of course, geranium--gotta have those! I didn't buy as many as usual this year, so this is the token one for now.

The English American

The English American: A Novel by Alison Larkin

rating: 4 of 5 stars
Marvelously entertaining story with a broad emotional range that does not become maudlin or silly. The hopefulness is cheering along with a heavy dose of humor. As an adopted daughter of British parents, the author recounts her adventures as she comes to know her birth parents in the USA. However, the book has left me with deep curiosity about the identity of her birth father.

Absolutely compelling story of the dishonesty in social structure and the lines we draw and ignore. Beautifully written story of black domestics in Mississippi during the early 60s. Completely spell-binding.

Denver Book Stores

The Tattered Cover Book Store http://www.tatteredcover.com/ is the go-to book store for DH and I, so we decided to visit a couple of other book stores in the Metro area on Saturday. A book crawl, as it were. Our first stop was at West Side Books where we were surrounded by walls and heaps of used books. DH caught a real bargain in getting six hardback novels for $5.00. Definitely a buy of the day! I picked up a new book of mazes to add to the Easter basket for one DGS.

We were off to The Bookies http://www.netnewsdesk.com/thebookies/, a treasure trove of books and educational products. I have loved books since childhood and continue to draw great enjoyment and pleasure from children's books. The Bookies is the most marvelous place--filled with with every imaginable book and related items for children to relish and enjoy again and again. Of course, the Easter books were calling me. A few even left with me--a pop-up, a pull-the-tab, and a wonderfully illustrated story about a bunny feeling loved.

After a stop at the Baking In My Pajamas Bakery, we just had to make a stop at the Tattered Cover Book Store. It just felt wrong not to go there! As usual, I left with a stack of I-can't-wait-to-read-these books. Of course, we veered into the attached Encore Restaurant where wood-roasted artichokes and a chicken Cobb salad awaited me! http://www.encoreoncolfax.com/

The birds feeding at the office window are enchanting to watch, though I can barely keep the feeder filled for them...and the occasional squirrel. Green, Green Grass

I finished the mid-March KAL with the Monthly Dishcloth Yahoo group http://www.ravelry.com/groups/monthly-dishcloths-knit-a-long

There's a link in the side bar for the Yahoo group. This is made with Berroco Comfort and size 7 needles. I truly enjoy each mystery project as it takes shape when I knit the several rows of directions that arrive daily via email. The color is "grass" which is greener than its appearance in this picture. I will actually use this as a dish cloth because of its shape. The square cloths will be put together for an afghan.
