Dogs-n-Books on Thursday

Max, absolute ruler of his domain

"Do you have “issues” with too much profanity or overly explicit (ahem) “romantic” scenes in books? Or do you take them in stride? Have issues like these ever caused you to close a book? Or do you go looking for more exactly like them? (grin)"
I prefer not to read books rife with profanity and explicit scenes that turn to vulgarity. Yes, I have closed the book on some like these precisely because I don't enjoy them. I read for pleasure and relaxation.
How about you? What's your take on this question?

Yep, me too. There is enough swearing and the profane in real life. I don't need it when I am trying to escape it as well.

I agree. Why do I need to read profanity?

There are times it forwards the plot, stays true to the character and his/her motivation and isn't gratuitous... I can accept it then.

But when it's use for shock value or punctuation? Nope... you lose me.

Happy BTT!

Tuff pup. As for your question. I'm rather tired of explicit everything. My imagination is so much more vivid than anything they can write out for me.

Oh how my pups would LOVE that bone. We keep things like that out of the house though because Abby doesn't share well. She's learning though. :) Has taken time and focus on my part and theirs.

Thanks for sharing!!

I am tired of explicit everything also! If a book is touted and talked about, I will sort of breeze through it. If I see the word g*d, I will not read it, never mind how popular, well written or by whom for that matter. I enjoy books that capture my imagination. I think that is why I love books for young girls written years ago (Anne, Little House, Charlotte's Web, Christy...) Love travel essays, too.

Oh, I meant g*d*** it. Not God! I love the Lord and will proclaim His wonders and His glories always!

One of the crazy beagles just ran by with her bone. Whew I am glad she did. Dog bones are better for me than her chasing my kitties! Your Max is a handsome man-dog!

Oh Max looks so happy with his giant bone!

I totally agree with the others.
Why on earth does there need to be profanity in books, really what is the point of putting it in there?
