Dogs and Books on Thursday

Max Guards the Door
Try not to wake him on your way in!

I would enjoy reading a meme about people’s abandoned books. The books that you start but don’t finish say as much about you as the ones you actually read, sometimes because of the books themselves or because of the circumstances that prevent you from finishing. So . . . what books have you abandoned and why?
Evensong by Gail Godwin Lost interest in the story line
Lazy B by Sandra Day O'Connor Ho-hum.....zzzzzz
A Girl Named Zippy by Haven Kimmel Stirred emotions/memories that I didn't want experience
The #1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith Distracted by the dialect
How about you? What are some books that you've tossed without finishing?
:::::::::::::::::::::::

…I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,...

In my younger days I tossed aside Pride and Prejudice because I had to read it or because I thought it was too wordy. Of course it is one of my most favorite books now!

Max look too comfy...what a great doggie! Books I have abandoned are too many to number....I started the Lovely Bones but stopped because of the content, and then there was Huckleberry Finn...BORING! How about any book on Oprah's list. Talk about sticking my head in the oven. They are all so depressing. But for every dud there is Trollope, Austin, and Elenor Lipman!

I started "The Lovely Bones" because everyone and her brother was reading it, but it was way too creepy for me and I had to stop. As a mom of little girls, reading about a little girl who gets murdered was freaking me out. Same for "The Secret Life of Bees" - couldn't take the child abuse. Books are an escape for me; if I want to be horrified I'll watch the news.

My doggie guards my door too - how neat to see another do it :0 I'm reading memoirs right now, as I'm writing my own. The circumstances of dropping one and not finishing is simply too many emotions interfering. Look Me In The Eye is fantastic, but I can't pick it up and finish it, though I'm so close. It makes me continually question myself and my own past and how it will all play out in the words in front of me on my on my own pages...

I read the first two books in the Ladies Detective Agency series and then I got bored with the character. I can see why you didn't like it.

I think he is only pretending to be asleep. Ready for action any second.
I put Richard Adams The Plague Dogs down only after about 25 pages. I usually make myself give a book 50-100 pages before I quit. Could not deal with the descriptions of the testing done on the dogs.

I really enjoyed the Number One Ladies Detective Agency but then I've visted Botswana so it had particular resonance

Max looks like he's hard at work! LOL

I don't usually remember titles of the books I quit reading.
