Chèche à la sauce Shawl

 It looks like a sweet little frilly shawl for someone in a nursing home, so I added ties to help keep the shawl in the right position. It's rather frilly and fussy, but I know someone will be blessed by it.  I made it for the Prayer Shawl Ministry at our church using the "Chèche à la sauce" pattern available here.

 The shawl is crocheted using Aran yarn and a size H crochet hook. While I'm not crazy about this yarn for this project and think the pattern would be prettier in a different yarn, I had to use acrylic for this ministry project. I changed the border, added picot edging, and made the shawl longer than the pattern directions. It is a quickie project that I completed in less than a week.

Finished Shawl and a Book

 This is the Casa Blanca Bonita Openwork Shawl crocheted with Tahki Yarns "Jackson" and a size L hook. The bulky yarn changes the look somewhat as does the single color. I would like to make another in self-striping yarn as shown on the pattern.

 Oh! I just noticed my shoe under the chair! I'm not very good about wearing shoes in the house! I'm always kicking them off! Do you do that too?



I added a scalloped border in dark blue on three sides and a single crochet finish across the neck edge. I've already taken this shawl to church for our Prayer Shawl ministry.

"Suddenly she was seized by the cold realization that she would likely be asked to sew many black dresses in the months ahead as her patrons lost husbands, sons, and brothers, and donned the somber colors of mourning as custom demanded. Another Prayer Shawl

I finished another prayer shawl for our church ministry through the Care Committee. This is a simple pattern called "Anna's Shawl". I did change the stitch work a bit to speed the process. The pattern is written in single crochet for the main part. I went from single to half double to double for the black part. I used Bucilla Melody, an old yarn, which is a mohair blend.  It is one of my least favorite shawls, I think because of the yarn and the colors. A neighbor gave me this yarn a couple of years ago. Someone had given it to her sister long ago. Sounds like it was passed from person to person over the years, so I decided it most certainly needed some hooky love. I hope it will bless someone in need of prayers and comfort.

Lap Blanket and Baby Blanket

 

This lap blanket went to the Prayer Shawl Ministry at church. I started it as a stash buster but, of course, had to purchase more yarn to finish it. I used 'Loops and Threads" yarn and a size H hook to make block 97 from Jan Eaton's book, 200 Crochet Blocks, with the diagonal pattern as the basic block. I then made a few different patterns to break it up a bit.

Here's my grannified baby blanket for great nephew Benjamin with a peek-a-boo owl in one corner--just for fun! Another stash buster that required a purchase or two is a collection of basic granny squares in white and shades of blue and green with some variegated here and there. Most of it is Bernat DK weight worked with a size G hook.

I'm now using more stash to crochet a shawl for our Prayer Shawl Ministry. How did I acquire so much blue yarn?

South Bay Shawlette

I just returned from taking this South Bay Shawlette to church for our Prayer Shawl Ministry. I made a shawl rather than shawlette. :)

This cotton/linen blend from Interlacements Yarn has been knitted and ripped a couple of times. It has lived in our house for a few years just waiting for the right pattern.

And this is it, not knit but crochet! The lovely South Bay Shawlette beautifully fits these colors and weight. My prayers go with it to comfort its wearer.

Lap Robe

I was asked to make some lap robes in colors suitable for men for our Prayer Shawl ministry at church. Since I had two balls of James Brett Marble in stash, I decided to crochet this simple "Spicy Delights" pattern. You can get pattern info here. I used a size K hook as specified, but now realize that I could have used a larger size for a more open look in the pattern.

My neighbor gave me some vintage Bucilla "Melody" 50-50 mohair/acrylic yarn that had been in her sister's stash. I used a bit of it to finish this lap robe with a scallop edge. While the pattern calls for fringe, I am not a fringe fan, so I substituted this edging. I pray that this small blanket will bless and comfort the recipient.
