I'm using yarn left-overs to make items for the local "Second Chance" shop. This short shawl is long enough to be tied in the front. I have promised myself that I will only use yarn I already have. No special purchases for these!
This short shawl is made of some periwinkle acrylic--missing label--and Cascade Pearls on size 15s in garter.

Dogs on Thursday --- Freaky Eye!
Here's what the Power of Schmooze Award is all about: 'As it goes, schmoozing is the natural ability “to converse casually, especially in order to gain an advantage or make a social connection.” Good schmoozers effortlessly weave their way in and out of the blogosphere, leaving friendly trails and smiles, happily making new friends along the way. They don’t limit their visits to only the rich and successful, but spend some time to say hello to new blogs as well. They are the ones who engage others in meaningful conversations, refusing to let it end at a mere hello - all the while fostering a sense of closeness and friendship.
I now tap Tracey at http://fuzzybritches.wordpress.com/

Daddy of 'Em All
Yee-HAH! DH and I spent the weekend at Cheyenne Frontiers Days, which is in its 111th year! We traveled round trip in luxury in a dome car of the Frontier Days train. http://www.cfdtrain.com/posttrain.htm
After departing from Union Station in Denver, we arrived at the beautifully renovated sandstone depot in downtown Cheyenne. We immediately walked a block or two to see the start of the biggie Frontier Days parade.
Decorated boots are strategically placed downtown. This one depicts the role of missionaries in the area.
The Governor's boot displays the names of those who have served Wyoming.
This bull rider welcomes everyone to the entrance of the Western museum and rodeo grounds.

Second Chance
Lailah completes final inspection of this garter stitch scarf that I knit for a local charity. A group has used a grant to open a second-hand shop called "Second Chance". They sell donated, used items to provide jobs and parenting classes for teen mothers.
The Lord put this on my heart: to knit/crochet items to donate to the shop. I'm plan to make "fun" items for young women and babies. I do wish I had made this scarf narrower. The base fiber is a ladder yarn from my stash. Of course, the label was MIA! The carry-along is a minty green ribbon fiber. When that was all knitted, I changed to "Light Pipe" that I've had for years. http://www.straw.com/cpy/yarns/lightpipe_card.html I used #3324-candy to carry along with the first fiber. I tied some "fringy" pieces here and there on the body of the scarf to add a bit of whimsy. Aren't I whimsical?!! ;)
I want to make a pile of felted bags and skinny, funsy scarves to donate.
Take a peek at the beautiful crochet designs and colors at this site http://www.marisatricotecrochet.blogspot.com/. It is written in Portuguese with pix that speak to us in any language.

Dogs on Thursday
I am certainly seeing a new side of Max now that we have our puppy. He gently but surely lets her know that he is Alpha!! He hasn't played with toys for several years. Now he takes them away from Lailah to establish who is boss! She is a good puppy and follows Max everywhere! Max follows me all of the time, so you get the picture of our little parade from room to room!
Oh, and my post "Dogs Don't Get it" does not apply to curious puppies! Lailah has been dragging yarn around which has led me to set the baskets of yarn out of her reach. They are not artfully arranged, but setting here there and everywhere in my office! My first thought is not to grab a camera, so trust me on this!
Paula: Max is very accepting of Lailah and certainly let's her know when she's pushed her playfulness a little too far. I am enjoying them so much!

Bird
To Honor Claudia Taylor Johnson~~Lady Bird
An American First Lady
Her husband called her "Bird". The nation always saw the Lady who was a successful business woman in her own, independent right without sacrificing her feminine qualities. In retrospect, she remains an icon to those of us coming of age during the tumultuous years of the '60s.

Dogs on Thursday
Fantastic Day to begin Dogs on Thursday because I brought a Boxer puppy home yesterday! Now, Max has a playmate! It's interesting to see Max's care-taking instincts as well as his gentle but definite way of establishing his rule! It will be great for Max to have doggie company!
I plan to register her as Denver Lailah Ali after the professional boxing daughter of Muhammed Ali. Lailah has a funny lop-sided appearance because one side of her face is white with a black marking under her eye. It looks like she's wearing mascara!! Too cute!

Righetti--No Meatballs
Interested in this out of print yarn book by Maggie Righetti? I listed it so you can search the title on eBay. (I'm not sure how to link into the listing.) There is another listing for this book as well. I'd like to get it to someone who will value it.
Yesterday's pic is one that I took at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun. I truly-truly enjoyed that trip! Yes, Terri Lynne, I have been traveling fairly often and loving it!
Paula: Love-love-love the Doggie Thursday idea!!! Everyone, look at Paula's comment on yesterday's post--especially if you have a dog!! Great idea! Thanks for adding me, Paula.

Dogs Don't Get It!
I was just visiting Paula at http://bassetknitter.blogspot.com/, laughing at the poem she posted, smiling at the cunning pix of her precious, little kitty. And...I thought....cat's completely get it! They understand yarn...maybe even knitting. Cats know. Consider the many blogs with frolicking kitties and catties as they play with yarn, WIPs, and FOs. Tangles of yarn are left in their cat happy wake. Yep. No doubt. Cats can be crazed yarnies.
Let's take a look at my magnificent Max. Notice the yarn basket? Notice Max sleeping? Complete indifference to basket of yarniness. There may be dogs who interact with yarn. Max is not one of them.
Due to his sterling character, Max will model for my photo shoots. It does not bring him joy.
Not even the luscious Collinette AbFab yarns tempt him. Nope. Max just doesn't get it. Poor dear. Good thing I love him so much!
Can you...or a cat....turn your back on this inviting fiber?

Pinning Ceremony
While Max and I sang traditional frat and sorority sweetheart songs, the scarf for the Red Scarf Project became pinned. A romantic moment indeed. But then, you knew that, didn't you?
The Red Scarf is resplendent on the quilt hand-stitched by my DMIL, a touching background for this magical moment. The ceremony took place in a spare bedroom.

This scarf is stockinette broken by three garter stitches on each side and bands of three ridges of garter placed where it "looked right" to me. Yes, I am very technical about my knitting, aren't I?
Big Red Scarf looked so lonely that I knitted a l'il buddy to be pinned right along-side him/her/it. Li'l Buddy will go to the Dulaan Project. (See side bar for links) Steaming will be celebrated later today.
----------------------------
Unfortunately, Li'l Buddy was a li'l too li'l so I added contrasting crochet edging to finish it.
Comments...I love comments...Thanks to any one who has taken time to leave a comment. They mean so much to me!!

To Rhonda & Paula: The Saturday sky picture was snapped east of Greeley, CO. It does have a natural sepia tint, doesn't it? I mean along with the squished bugs on the windshield.
Rhonda, I plan to use the yellow yarn to make these booties for charity http://vickiehowell.blogspot.com/2007/05/hugs-stitches.html and this teeny hat at http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/na_knitting/article/0,2025,DIY_14141_4826209,00.html
Paula: The yarn is very smooth and soft to the touch. I think it will have a nice hand when knit. Have you bought any yet? :)

Over the Lantern Moon
I am over the Lantern Moon (sizes 6 & 8) about the aMaizing yarn I received from my SP 10!! It's made from corn fiber and is the color of butter to slather on it! Add some organic cotton and milk fiber from the Vickie Howell Collection and I want to count my blessings on the Knitters Rowsary! Flipping through my crochet magazines, I am thankful for the uniquely wonderful gifts from my Secret Pal. I hope she soon reveals herself to me!!

Seeing Red
Today I started my first scarf for the Red Scarf Project for this year. The scarves are to be sent in September and October this year, so I decided to get started. I'm using Plymouth Encore and size 13 needles. I like the 13-on-13 scarf. Cast on 13 sts using size 13 needles. This is a make-it-up-as-I-go scarf that started with four garter ridges.
Keeping three sts on each side in garter, do a chunk of stockinette.
Three ridges of garter.
Continue as your whims take you.
This is fun to do for baby blankets, too. It suits my need for mindless knitting and taking a break from the cap sleeve shaping on my Bistro shirt, which incidentally is also a shade of red!
If you would like more info on the Red Scarf Project, please check here: http://www.orphan.org/index.php?id=40

I've been thinking RED today while enjoying the beautiful petunias and salvia in a planter on our deck.
