Are you planning on attending Stitch N' Pitch at the Colorado Rockies July 28 game?

Would you be interested in coming if there's a blogger meet-up? Stitch N' Pitch helps raise awareness of the needle arts (that's knitting, crochet, needlepoint, cross stitch, and embroidery) by stitching in public while you enjoy a baseball game with your family and friends.

Colorado-based Interweave Press (publisher of Interweave Knits, Interweave Crochet and other fiber-related books and magazines) and a committee of Colorado yarn shops are organizing this year's event with TNNA. We hope to bring out a huge crowd -- and this is where we could use your help. Would you help spread word-of-mouth about the event?

Ab Fab Progress Report One

Lovin' this ghan! The Colinette yarns are incredible to the touch and to the eye--beautiful, beautiful shades and textures! Everything combines to make this such fun to knit! I had planned to crochet this ghan. The kit includes four knit patterns and one crochet pattern. After several rows in crochet, I decided I didn't really like the look of it. I restarted in the "Scallops" pattern and think it's gorgeous! The pattern is repeated over 17 stitches and 56 rows. The 56 rows are repeated four times.

This is a surprise for DGD for her redecorated bedroom. This purple-loving girl will be excited about this, I'm sure. That adds to the fun-to-knit factor too!

1. DH and I have lived in OH, UT, OR, WI, WV, and now in CO since 1974.
2. We have two sons and a daughter and now, seven Grands!
3. I have taught these grades 3, 4, K, and 1 in 30 years, then moved to teaching at the college level for four years--12 consecutive semesters!
4. I have two younger sisters. All of our names start with "C".
5. My children had the same initials, TDA, that is --- until DD married.
6. I think they may have tired of me calling them by saying, "Ta-dah! Ta-dah! Ta-dah!"
7. I was born again in the Lord in 1999 and am more blessed than I could ever describe.
8. I love peanut butter sandwiches on whole wheat bread! Doesn't that make you want to come to dinner at our house??!! :)

Soooo nice to come home to...along with DH and Max, that is!! I am making it in the Scallops pattern in powerful, passionate purple for DGD. Actually, Collinette named it "Amethyst", which indeed it is! Amethyst also happens to be the birthstone that this DGD and I share since she was born on my birthday in February! Wonders abound! She has redecorated her bedroom in purple-everything so, of course, this kit called my name! I've been wanting to make it for about four years now, so the time has come. It's all about the yarn-the yarn-the yarn!!


Here are a few pics from the Biltmore Estate beginning at the entry gate. It is six miles from this point to the house.

We toured the farm village, winery, the deer park area for lunch and a carriage ride on the first day.

We spent the second afternoon touring the house, gardens, and court yard. Of course, the house and its furnishings are glorious. I enjoy looking back in time to see how people lived during the gilded age. I must say that I was even more keen on the beauty of this huge estate, the natural beauty in the trees and plants. The estate is so vast that I felt transported in this springtime landscape. A truly prayer-inspiring setting.


We also spent time at the Billy Graham Center in Asheville. This is the chapel spire towering over the trees. This too is situated on an enormous, natural acreage purchased by Reverend Graham during the '50s for retreats, seminars, and training. There are more pics at http://www.bgtc.info/

Leavin' on a Jet Plane

I'm leaving in the morning to meet-up with my sister in North Carolina. She has long wanted to spend time at the Biltmore http://www.biltmore.com/ Her husband is not interested, so I, in an act of supreme sacrifice, agreed to meet her there. (I think I suggested it.) We bought passes for two days at the Biltmore and will spend the rest of the week enjoying sisterly fun! The South in springtime will be so beautiful compared to the windy West!


Oh yes I'll be knitting! Nothing like flights and layovers to get a good amount of knitting done. iPod and knitting--I'm good to go---if I stay awake! I usually sleep on planes!
I started the ribbing on the Oat Couture Bistro sweater today. I love the simplicity of this pattern for a cool summer look. http://www.oatcouture.com/patternpages/706Bistro.html

I am using the S. Charles mosaic yarn in a dark red/cranberry color with yellow and teal threads running through it. I just love the yarn---I bought it five years ago!! The pattern too! There will be actual pics when I return from my travels. No time for it tonight.

Journey to the Center of the Earth

Max completes inspection on the final panel of the worldghan. I am currently adding the red pennant-like points and then will be ready to attach it to the ghan.

I am going to do more with the crocheted edging I added to the pattern. It currently has a row of navy single crochet.

Of course, this is in "raw" form--unblocked and no finishing touches.

This has been an enjoyable, frustrating, huge project. I am beginning to feel a weight lifting as I near completion. Why? Because it has taken much longer than I had anticipated--for various reasons--and because I'll be so happy to give it to J.
