Murder On A Girls' Night Out

Murder on a Girls' Night Out: A Southern Sisters Mystery
by Anne George

Mary Alice and Patricia Ann are two Southern sisters who are a kick and a half! The plot line is fairly simple with a wealth of characters who offer many pithy observations. Very funny, entertaining, cozy reading. After Mary Alice, the plump gregarious sister buys the Skoot 'n Boot Bar and Restaurant, murder and disaster ensue. Of course, Mary Alice and her gray-haired, retired teacher (Hey! That's me!!!) sister--Patricia Ann---are stumbling along the trail to solve the murder. There are enough twists to hold the reader's interest with writing to bring chuckles, ha-has, and laughter.

Frog's Legs

So, when Lailah is completely engrossed in chewing her rawhide bone, she assumes her most comfy position---the frog's legs pose. Doggie yoga at its finest? I remember when I was a kid, there were some who would sit in the human version of this pose. You know, sitting on the floor, watching TV, sitting in that..ummmm...elastic position. I could never do it, couldn't be comfortable in that position.

Maybe if I had a rawhide bone?

No! I Don't Want To Join A Book Club

Just finished Virginia Ironside's "No! I Don't Want to Join a Book Club" subtitled "A Diary of a Sixtieth Year". Droll, witty, entertaining, so many connections for women over 50! Its difficult to start another after reading such a good book! Read on!

"A screamingly funny and poignant story about embracing life beyond middle age:
Marie Sharp is heading toward sixty and is just fine with it. She’s already had plenty of excitement in her life: sex and drugs in the freewheeling sixties, career and children, marriage and divorce. Now she’s ready to settle into a quiet, blissfully boring routine. No Italian classes or gym memberships or bicycle trips across Europe, thank you very much! Marie just wants to put her feet up and “start doing old things.” She’s even sworn off men! But as it turns out, life still has some surprises in store, the biggest of which is a new grandson on the way. What’s more, Archie, her old childhood crush, suddenly reenters her life, and her closest friend falls seriously ill. Armed with a biting sense of humor, Marie wrestles with a life that refuses to follow her plans—and may still offer more possibilities than she realizes."

Some favorite quotes:

p.49 "At last you're free of youth's cruel chains
With time to sit and count your gains---
Experience, peace, and lack of fear
Are gifts of this, your sixtieth year.
So celebrate the past unroll'd
And cheer the fact that now you're OLD!"

p. 161 "But I still abide by very strict rules about dressing after middle age, most of which were given to me by my mother.
1. Never wear white. It makes yellow teeth look yellower."

p. 181 "...the acronym now...is SWELL---Sixty, Well-Off, and Enjoying Life. We are, apparently, the most optimistic, most active and highest spending age group."

Horst and Me

Look at these. Will they ever be a blanket? Only if they multiply. They need my help! I am knitting these little bows/butterflies/shells with DK weight self-striping yarn and size 6s to join together into a blanket.
This project was inspired by the Horst Schulz "African Adventure" ghan at http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/horst-schulz-fans/topics
These bits are made in two pieces. Yes! I know! The "half shell" is knitted with the moss stitch extension, then slipped onto a stitch holder. The other half is made without the extension, then joined to the first with a 3-needle bind off. Once I got the rhythm, I've enjoyed making these small pieces.
When will it be completed? Are you kidding??! I haven't a clue!
